What a crazy season this is turning out to be. We have such a variety of fish right now while skipping over our normal lull between the big rockfish and the summer species.
It was a good thing we still have some of the big ones around because this past weekend we helped by having a weigh in station at the marina for the 4th annual Bottom County Rockfish Tournament. This year it was held in memory of Buzzy Ridgell and the proceeds went to Hospice. The first place winner was Phil Langley on the Chesapeake Charm and second place went to Jimmy Cullison on the Mary Lou. The official weigh in and barbeque were held afterwards at Buzzy's Country store where a good time was had by all.
Just in time for the size/limit change, the smaller rockfish are moving in so the trollers and the light tackle fishermen both have a good shot at bringing in fish.
The croaker also have appeared in good numbers and are being caught from Point No Point all the way down to Point Lookout. Tonight our own Michael Henderson got the first flounder we have seen caught in the mouth of St. Jerome's creek. He caught the 19 inch flounder on light tackle using a Bass Kandy Delight.
