Coastal Angler Magazine has announced its new fishing and boating-centric Smartphone application—Fish On —which provides up-to-the-minute information at the touch of a button on all the areas that can affect a day’s fishing or boating.
The GPS-driven application, developed includes lunar tables, tide charts, fishing regulations, local weather, marine conditions, wreck locations, and local fishing reports. It’ll even help users locate the closest tackle shop or fueling facility, and provide a Google Maps route to get there.
According to Coastal Angler Magazine publisher Rodney Smith, the application can help anglers brag about their catch and even help them calculate the weight of their fish.
“The Coastal Angler Magazine Fish On App interfaces with your Smartphone camera and ensures anglers can brag immediately about their catch by posting photos on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The app also has an interface where you input the length, width and species of fish, which then gives you an estimate weight of your fish.”
Coastal Angler Magazine Editor In Chief Ben Martin added, “According to Nielsen’s App Playbook report, most popular applications are those that provide utility for users. This application will entertain; help boaters find marinas, bait and tackle shops, and wreck locations; look at the weather; and it’ll even let them see the latest fishing reports and forecasts.”
Martin shared version two of the application is already in the works, with the next version adding the ability to upload video to social media sites and/or attach to e-mails, and a way to calculate wind speed and direction.
Coastal Angler Magazine will debut Fish On at ICASTTM (the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades) in Las Vegas, which is scheduled for July 14-16, 2010. For those who won’t be making the trek to ICAST, no fear! They can purchase the application for $4.99 beginning midnight on July 9 at http://www.fishonapp.com.
